Audi’s middleweight A6 sedan scored an “Excellent” rating in the September issue of Consumer Reports, ranking second in a comparison of new top-rated luxury sedans priced around $50,000 and was narrowly edged out of first place by the Infiniti M35.
In the comparison, the A6 and M35 were the only two vehicles to land an “Excellent” rating. Also in the comparison were the Acura RL and Lexus GS300, which ranked as “Very Good”, and the Cadillac STS.
Full tests and ratings of the group will appear on newsstands August 9 in the September 2005 issue of Consumer Reports Magazine and a complete report will also be made available to subscribers at www.ConsumerReports.org.
One key place where the A6 could be considered lacking is reliability data. The 3.2 is so new a powertrain that Consumer Reports cannot properly project reliability figures. Consumer Reports recommends the M35, but cannot yet recommend the A6 ats it needs to have data from subscriber surveys, and crash-test data from a government rollover test.
