VW: Cooperation with DaimlerChrysler for US market?

VW
German newspaper "Handelsblatt" is writing about a possible cooperation between VW and DaimlerChrysler for the US market.

It's said that Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard and Dieter Zetsche are in talks about the production of a van based on the next Chrysler voyager solely for the US market. Such a contract could already be signed on the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Possible starting date for the van is said to be 2007.

Both parties refused to comment this article.

This is not the first cooperation between the two brands. The upcoming Dodge Caliber, which is coming 2006, will be equipped with a diesel engine from Volkswagen for the non-US markets. VW is delivering already 120.000 diesel engines yearly for Chrysler and Mitsubishi.
