VW Touareg: Webasto makes packing easier

Webasto is showing a concept car called "hattrick" which is based on the VW Touareg.
The Webasto Hattrick concept can be loaded by dropping the tailgate (left) or by filling the loading box (right) then pushing a button, to get the item to electronically slide inside the car.
Webasto, a specialist in roof systems and auxiliary heaters, hopes its Hattrick concept car will help it grow its interiors business.
"We are not as successful as we would like to be in this area," said Bernd Schleicher, Webasto's r&d manager for roof and body systems.
The Volkswagen Touareg-based concept, which debuted at the IAA, features a multifunctional tailgate -- it can be opened three different ways -- and a loading box that electronically extends to the end of the tailgate. This makes it easier to put items in the back.
Webasto was responsible for the loading system in the BMW X5, Schleicher said.
