VW New Beetle: New price list

Inside Line is reporting that VW of America raised the prices for the VW New Beetle.
Volkswagen said its updated 2006 New Beetle 2.5-liter, on sale this month, will start at $17,795. Despite a prolonged sales slump in North America, the car's price has been hiked more than $600 over the base 2005 Beetle.
The extra money for the 2006 buys you a new 150-horsepower, 2.5-liter, five-cylinder engine, compared with last year's 115-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The 2006 edition comes with an electronic stability program as standard.
The price also escalated on the New Beetle convertible, to $22,535 from $21,905. The soft top gets the larger, more powerful engine as well.
VW lowered the sticker of the New Beetle TDI to $19,005 from $20,625. The TDI is powered by a 100-hp, 1.9-liter turbodiesel.
The destination charge, included in all prices, is $615.
While the new five-cylinder engine and an electronic stability program are probably the biggest changes for model-year 2006, all New Beetles get modest tweaks inside and out, including a new instrument cluster and revised headlamps and taillamps.
