Audi A4: Spruced up for 2006!

Audi A4
The Audi A4 is spruced up for 2006.
The 2006 model of the Audi A4 is more contemporary, keeping the car current with a new wave of competition coming its way.

It is not exactly what you might call a "new" A4. It is based on the same platform as the old car. On Audi's to-do list was a new exterior, a revamped suspension, some tweaking of the interior and some new engines.

The new interior is essentially the same as the outgoing car only a little neater with some dimensional changes. The materials feel even better than before and everything is softer and tighter fitting.

On the road it is a fine car to drive in the most basic sense of the word - fine. It does everything effortlessly and smoothly. Without any drama the V6 will bring you to a higher speed than you want faster than you thought.

The most impressive part of how the car drove was how it slowed down. At any speed, it can deliver firm braking force without spilling your coffee. The front end never dives and it remains perfectly straight.

The new A4 is a more mature and better-dressed luxury sedan than its predecessor. It's upscale in a passive and cool manner.

Like the engineering philosophy Germans are famous for, this is not a new A4, it's just the next one. It is a progression of what it already was, a comfortable all-wheel drive performer with an immaculately finished, rock-solid interior.
