Audi R10: Successor of the Audi R8

"Inside Line" also has a story about the world premiere of the Audi R10 in Paris last Tuesday.
Audi formally took the wraps off its new R10 endurance car here on Tuesday, with the vehicle's massive new power plant inspiring awe among those in racing circles.
While the basic design is not a significant departure from that of its predecessor, the successful R8, motor sports pundits were dazzled that the car would be powered by a 5.5-liter V12 turbodiesel, replacing the R8's 3.8-liter V8. The engine is coupled with Audi's X-trac gearbox, although the company remains mum on the actual number of gears, and a ceramic clutch.
The R10 employs a carbon-fiber monocoque integrated with the body, and has a longer wheelbase than the R8 to accommodate the new 12-cylinder power plant. The car is 50mm lower than the R8.
Interesting especially is the conclusion of this article:
Does a modern V12 diesel stand a chance against gasoline engines in endurance racing? If anyone can pull off this engineering feat, it should be Audi.
Absolutely true!
