VW Golf, VW Jetta: Might have debut in India?

Regular readers of The German Car Blog know that VW is keeping the road to India open, but without a final decision yet.
We now found some new that besides the VW New Beetle, the VW Golf and the VW Jetta might be introduced to India.
Is Volkswagen's Jetta/Bora due for a debut in India? According to sources in the vendor circuit, Volkswagen may be looking at introducing the Golf/Jetta platform in India for their debut launches.
A top-level team from the German giant, which was in India recently looking for both greenfield options and sourcing opportunities, reportedly talked to a host of vendors and suppliers for components for the platform.
Sources say Volkswagen was looking for cost structures for local sourcing before their entry into India. The German company may eventually crank out an Asia/India-specific model on the Golf/Jetta platform as their debut vehicle, sources say. The company would also look at diesel powertrain options for their debut model.
Vendor sources also said the Volkswagen team was in talks with several component companies particularly regarding the state where they want to set up their greenfield facility. "Initially they wanted to enter Andhra Pradesh but after the scam controversy they are looking at three options -- Maharashtra, Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh," said a senior official at a supplier company which was contacted by the Volkswagen team.
Vendors sources say the indications right now are that VW will come in with a compact or mid-size car. The new-generation Golf/Jetta platform already has one model in the Indian market -- the Skoda Laura.
