Audi Q5: Alive and kicking!

Audi Q5
British "AutoExpress" has a short article about the Audi Q5.
The Q is getting smaller at Audi's dealerships, but salesmen have nothing to worry about. The German maker has officially confirmed it will build a small SUV, badged the Q5 - more than a year after Auto Express first broke the news that was its intention.

Following in the tracks of the recently launched Q7, the smaller model will take on Land Rover's next-generation Freelander, as well as BMW's soon-to-be-revised X3. Expect similar looks to the full-sized off-roader, but with a more aggressive edge. Professor Dr Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the Audi board of management, told Auto Express: "The Q5 will be an overtly sporty vehicle that will add an important product to the Audi model range."

Five is set to become the magic number for the company, with the Q5 being joined by an A5 coupé. Top brass have also now confirmed that the BMW 6-Series rival will go on sale here in the first half of 2007.

Next to arrive will be the Q5, which will hit UK roads in 2008. The new 4x4 will be built at the firm's Ingolstadt factory in Germany. A total of 1,700 workers are being lined up to produce the new model, with an investment of around £2million to be made in the plant over the next few years.
