VW Touareg: Slated for Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Three VW Touareg V10 TDI will participate in the famous climb to Pikes Peak at the Race to the Clouds on July 1.
The event is in advance of the U.S. debut of the 2006 Touareg diesel in September. VW said the SUV will start at $68,420, including a $670 destination charge.
The 2006 Touareg diesel will be on sale in all 50 states. But the 2007 model, which falls under tougher government restrictions, will be on sale in only 45 states, excluding California, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The V10 TDI is a high-performance diesel version of the German SUV. The 5.0-liter engine delivers 310 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 553 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a 12.4-mile course with 156 turns on terrain that alternates between pavement and gravel. The Touareg will run in the luxury SUV division driven by professional racers. Pro drivers Mark Miller, Danny Sullivan and Ryan Arciero will pilot the Touaregs.
