VW Passat: Cart your family in style

A review of the VW Passat wagon from a family perspective
As you know, folks have been waking up from that dream to find $3.00 gasoline. Filling up the family truckster might mean dipping into junior’s college fund. Check the sales of vehicles and it’s clear automakers are selling fewer truck based SUVs. Data suggests folks are moving to car-based crossovers. But there’s a classic bodystyle that’s beginning to make a comeback- The station wagon. So I snagged a Volkswagon Passat wagon for a week long test.
Wagons are an excellent choice for active families. They have much of the room and utility found in a sport ute. No, they don’t tow boats or go off road but few SUVs are ever pressed into that kind of service. For those who can’t get past the Ward Cleaver wagon image, let me assure you this car is getting plenty of compliments while in my possession. And not just from parents either. The Passat wagon is especially attractive, perhaps even more so than the sedan.
