Volkswagen AG has joined the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) (earlier post), increasing the hydrogen demonstration project’s membership to 11 companies and 17 hydrogen vehicles.
Volkswagen brings a VW Touran HyMotion to the CEP passenger car fleet. The vehicle was developed at the Volkswagen Technology Center in Isenbüttel and initially underwent intensive practical testing in the USA. The tests in Berlin represent the vehicle’s premiere in Germany.
The Touran HyMotion uses an 80 kW electric motor powered by a fuel cell. The storage tank holds 1.9 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar, and supports a vehicle range of approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles). The Touran HyMotion is also fitted with a nickel-metal hybrid battery system with an energy content of around 1.9 kWh, which is recharged by the fuel cell or regenerative braking.
The Touran HyMotion accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 14 seconds from a standing start, reaching a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph).
