Audi: Tweaking motoring offerings in South Africa

Audi is tweaking its motoring offerings in South Africa.
Audi has tweaked the engines on selected models in its A4, A6 and A8 ranges available in South Africa.
Starting with the A4, customers can choose an upgraded three-litre TDI engine with 171kW on tap. This raises the output by 21kW though torque remains at 450Nm from 1400rpm.
The engine upgrade has improved the car's claimed 0-100km/h time to 6.8sec for the manual yet fuel consumption in the combined cycle is said to be a light 7.6 litres/100 km.
This turbodiesel engine will be available in sedan and Avant bodies and exclusively with all-wheel drive.
A choice of six-speed manual or six-speed tiptronic is available on the sedan, the Avant has a six-speed tiptronic.
Pricing for the A4 3.0 TDI quattro sedan manual is R359 000, the tiptronic retails for R372 000. The 3.0TDI Avant quattro tiptronic sells for R388 000.
Moving to the A6, three new engines are available. This includes the 3.0 TDI whose power is up from 165kW to 171kW. Torque remains at 450Nm.
The engine is also only available with all-wheel drive and a six-speed tiptronic gearbox in both sedan and Avant body styles. Price: A6 3.0 TDI sedan R469 000, Avant R485 000.
The top model in the A6 range benefits from a new V8. The 4.2-litre V8 now has FSI direct injection to raise power from 246kW to 257kW at 6800rpm. Torque rises from 420Nm to 440Nm at 3500rpm and all-wheel drive is standard.
The additional power and torque allows the A6 4.2 FSI to sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.9sec with top speed electronically limited to 250km/h. Price: R575 000.
The same new 4.2 FSI engine is also in the top-of-the-range A8 sedan, with all-wheel drive and a six-speed tiptronic gearbox. Price: R769 000.
