Audi: FSI - When fewer cylinders equal more power

FSI
Here's some very interesting background information about Audi's FSI technology. A must read for all Audi enthusiasts!
Audi first developed FSI direct fuel injection to meet the grueling demands of endurance racing. The FSI-engined Audi R8 not only pulled more than 600 hp from its 3.6 liter engine, it also had the fuel efficiency to spend the maximum time on track during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which explains the four Le Mans and 59 other top-flight wins attributed to the R8.

On the road, FSI is equally advanced. Compare an Audi A3 2.0 T FSI with automatic transmission to the MINI Cooper S, and you'll see a faster 0-60 mph time (6.7 seconds versus 7.4, respectively). You'll also get more space, but that's another story.

Move up to the Audi A4 with quattro® all-wheel drive, Tiptronic® automatic transmission and a 2.0 T FSI, and even compared to six-cylinder opposition like the BMW 325xi or Lexus IS 250 AWD, you'll find more torque (207lb.ft), faster acceleration (0-60 mph in 7.5) and better mileage* from the vehicle with the four-rings. Never Follow. That's a promise.
