Audi A5: Spy report!

Popular Mechanics has a "spy" report about the Audi A5 coupé and convertible after having talked to Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America's chief. Not so many secrets were unveiled, but it's nice to see a confirmation.
At an informal dinner in Montreal, we chatted with Audi of America’s Executive Vice President, Johan de Nysschen, about the new model. He told PM that the A5 is a larger coupe slotted in between the BMW 3-series and the BMW 6-series, competing directly with the Mercedes-Benz CLK. The A5 will be arriving in Europe in the spring of ’07 and probably arrive stateside a few months later.
The new coupe will be offered at launch with Audi’s 4.2-liter V8 paired to one of three transmissions—a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic or an updated version of the DSG gearbox. Interestingly, de Nysschen spent a great deal of our conversation focused on the A5’s engine location.
About a year after the A5 coupe goes on sale, a convertible version will arrive. And eventually, de Nysschen said, the A5 Cabriolet will replace the current A4 Cabriolet in the Audi lineup.
