VW: Aiming to steer brand in top position in Malaysia

After the stopped talks with Proton, VW is now looking forward to steer the brand into a top position in Malaysia.
VW CARS Sdn Bhd, master dealer of Volkswagen (VW) vehicles in the country, will spend RM100 million by the end of 2007 to market and establish the German marque in Malaysia.
The company has mapped out "big" long-term plans for the business, including one to eventually assemble VW cars locally and market them regionally.
"We want to work with our principal beyond 20 years," VW Cars executive chairman Datuk Ilyas Mohamed told Business Times yesterday.
VW Cars signed a pact with principal Volkswagen AG recently and expects to sell 1,200 VW vehicles in the first year. The first batch of about 100 units should be locally available soon.
The company is bringing in seven VW models, including the Touareg, Passat, Golf, Golf GTI, Beetle and Polo, and has received bookings for 30 to 40 units.
