Porsche 911 Turbo: "Beastly enough!"
A great review of one of the most wanted cars! Follow the read more link for a great gallery!
It’s done. We finally found a car beastly enough to best the Porsche Carrera GT off the line—and surprise, it’s another Porsche. Not just any Porsche, mind you, but the perennial king of the (non-exotics) hill, the 911 Turbo, this time around in 997 guise.
We first sampled the 997 Turbo in Germany in the spring, at which point Porsche insisted the Tiptronic-equipped car was capable of running from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, or three-tenths quicker than with the six-speed manual. So when time came to flog the car at the test track, we reluctantly opted for the Tip—and promptly set an AutoFile record. Where the former AutoFile champion Carrera GT reached 60 mph in 3.5-seconds flat, the Turbo needed just 3.38 seconds, better even than Porsche claimed.
