Audi S3: Spotted at Paris Motor Show

Audi S3
Here are some great pics of the Audi S3 from the Paris Motor Show. It looks fantastic in orange! A must have.
With 265 turbocharged horses pumped out by one of Audi's new TFSI engines, this is one hot hatch to watch. A six-speed close-ratio manual gearbox puts the power to the road through Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive system, and a beefed-up suspension system takes care of the handling. Sport seats characterize the interior, with aluminum accents and panel inlay options of piano finish black, more aluminum or birch wood grain. Upholstery is cloth/leather combo unless upgraded to all leather, and the orange is SWEET in this Autoblogger's humble opinion.

Styling is another notch above the A3, where an extended front fascia and 18-inch wheels make their mark. The only complaint we have is the rear end, which the vehicle shares with the A3 -- the tail lights lack the kind of inspiration seen in the Q7 and other siblings.

The benefits of owning an S3 don't come cheap -- the vehicle starts out at 35,150 euro, or $44,650.

Audi: New 2.8 V6 FSI engine

Audi
Here's another engine premiere by Audi from the Paris Motor Show.
Audi is continuing to extend its range of V6 petrol engines. The new 2.8-litre engine, which will be celebrating its debut in the Audi A6 towards the end of the year, delivers an output of 154 kW (210 bhp) and a peak torque of 280 Nm, available from engine speeds of 3,000 to 5,000 rpm. The new V6 operates with ultra-efficient FSI direct injection and furthermore introduces an entirely new valve control technology – the Audi valvelift system. This, together with the further reduced friction of all components, cuts fuel consumption by 10 percent.

Audi views the new valvelift system as a solution offering considerable future potential. Its simple, compact design allows a high degree of compatibility and makes it efficient to build, and the modular principle permits substantial synergy within petrol engine model ranges. Audi manufactures a large proportion of the components itself, at its plant at Gyцr in north-western Hungary, where the V engines are likewise built.

High peak output, beefy pulling power at mid-range engine speeds, low fuel consumption and refined running – these strengths typify all Audi V-engines. The new engine family, consisting of V6, V8 and V10 power units, was first unveiled in 2004. Its distinguishing technical features are a standard cylinder angle of 90 degrees, an internal calibre of 90 millimetres and timing-chain drive of the camshafts and auxiliaries mounted compactly on the rear of the engines. The new 2.8 FSI fits into the range between the 3.2 FSI and the 2.4.

The 2.8 FSI has the same bore as its big brother at 84.5 mm. Meanwhile its stroke is only 82.4 mm instead of 92.8 mm – this slightly oversquare configuration produces a swept volume of 2,773 cm3 and excellent responsiveness.

Lower friction, lower consumption

With the aid of a downsized water pump and other refined details, the engine developers were able to cut the total friction losses quite considerably. The frictional mean effective pressure at 2,000 rpm has been cut by 0.22 bar, equivalent to 25 percent. This effect produces a fuel saving of around 5 percent.

The 2.8 FSI, which develops 154 kW (210 bhp) at 5,500 rpm and generates a constant torque of 280 Nm between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm, will be able to demonstrate both its refinement and its potential for economy in the A6. Audi achieves consumption of 8.7 litres of premium-grade petrol per 100 km under standard conditions in the MVEG cycle – a substantial improvement on the 2.8 litre V6, which was in use up until 2000 in the A6 generation of the day. In that model, it achieved combined-cycle consumption of 9.9 litres of premium-grade petrol per 100 km with a five-speed gearbox, in other words 1.2 litres or almost 14 percent more; it also produced eight percent less power, at 142 kW (193 bhp). What better illustration of Vorsprung durch Technik could there be?

Audi: New 1.8 TFSI engine

Audi
Audi launched a new 1.8 TFSI engine at the Paris Motor Show.
Ultra-fine fuel jets, precisely distributed

Audi regards FSI technology with turbocharging, now systematically refined for the new engine, as the best way to achieve all these objectives. With FSI technology, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. The new 1.8 TFSI does this at a maximum pressure that has been increased to 150 bar. Together with the new six-hole injectors and air movement in the combustion chamber controlled by charge movement flaps, it guarantees highly homogeneous mixture preparation and very efficient combustion. This supports the engine's agile characteristics and spontaneous power output, as well as its very low fuel consumption in practice.

A new type of high-pressure pump supplies this injection pressure. The pump is driven by a four-fold cam on the exhaust camshaft. This reduces the operating forces required and boosts precision, thus improving the emissions. The high-pressure lines through which the fuel reaches the injectors at maximum pressure are made entirely from stainless steel. The new six-hole nozzles distribute the ultra-fine fuel jets with precision inside the combustion chamber. Dual injection – the distribution of the fuel quantity between the admission stroke and the compression stroke – brings further advantages for the homogenisation of the mixture and heating of the catalytic converters after a cold start.

Turbocharger with improved aerodynamics

The watercooled turbocharger K03, from Borg Warner, maintains optimum cylinder filling. An optimised turbine wheel improves the aerodynamics inside the charger, as a result of which responsiveness lower down the engine range is further enhanced. In the intake system, the redesigned charge movement flap reduces flow losses and simultaneously assures a very homogeneous distribution of the mixture.

The result is an exceptionally spontaneous engine response to the accelerator at all engine speeds: at just 1,000 rpm, the new 1.8 TFSI develops a torque of 165 Nm, with maximum torque available very early on and across the extremely broad range of 1,500 to 4,200 rpm. The peak output of 160 bhp is likewise maintained across an extremely broad plateau of 5,000 to 6,200 rpm. This permits economical gearing that is nevertheless of a sporty character. With a compression ratio of 9.6:1, the engine is designed to run on premium-grade fuel (95 RON). In the A3 with manual gearbox, the combined-cycle fuel consumption is consequently a modest 7.3 l per 100 km.

Career plan as a universal engine

With these genes, the new 1.8 TFSI has the potential to keep on satisfying the toughest emission limits in the world. After all, it is destined for a career as a true "universal engine". The highly promising new engine that offers ample scope for further development will be going into production simultaneously at Audi's engines plant in Gyцr, Hungary, and in Dalian, China, in autumn 2006, when it will become the first petrol direct-injection engine on the Chinese market. The TFSI concept is likewise ideally equipped for use in the USA and South America, where fuel grades to some extent vary considerably.

Porsche: Coverage from Paris

Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Yes, that's right; that's the Porsche 911 GT3 RS! Looks great in bright orange!
Porsche unveiled its GT3 RS in Paris. When in hits showrooms next spring, this 911 will be the first in North America with an RS designation since 1973. The 2007 RS is powered by the same 415-hp, 3.6-liter boxer six as the standard GT3, but it carries the light-weight theme a bit further, with more carbon-fiber body bits that trim another 50 pounds. It also features a lighter, single-mass flywheel and an adjustable single-plane rear wing. Porsche claims the RS package trims one tenth of a second from the GT3's 0-62 mph time--reported at 4.2 sec. for the RS. This is the homologation car for the GT3 RSR that will be offered to race teams for the 2007 season, though the street-legal RS will not include the roll-cage in the United States. U.S price is pending, but we should expect a premium of 15 to 20 percent above the standard GT3's $106,000 retail price.

Porsche 911 Targa
Also, the 911 Targa made it's official public debut!
In Paris, Porsche introduced the eleventh and twelfth evolutions of the so-called 997 911 models: the Targa 4 and 4S. Like its 996 predecessor, this Targa features a full-area glass roof that retracts behind the backlight, though together the glass and operating mechanism are roughly 10 pounds lighter. The rear glass still opens, hatch-style, to expose storage space behind the seats (more than the space available in a 911 coupe). The big news, however, is that for the first time the Targa will be offered only in all-wheel drive. Both the Targa 4 (325-hp, 3.6-liter six) and 4S (355-hp, 3.8-liter six) will be available Nov. 18 at Porsche dealer near you Nov. 18, retailing at $85,700 and $95,900 respectively.

Audi R8: TopGear's report from Paris

Audi R8
TopGear. Paris Motor Show. Audi R8. 3 reasons to continue to read.
Even the cool French were left slack-jawed when Audi pulled back the covers from its R8 supercar.

Employing Le Mans legends Jacky Ickx and Tom Kristensen to do the unveiling, Audi showed off the car to the world at a special premiere the evening before the Paris show.

What we got was an R8 powered by a 4.2-litre V8 with 420bhp based on the RS4's that will push the R8 from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds.

Audi has shown its intended targets by not fitting a speed limiter at 155mph, but instead quotes a top speed of 187mph.

The main target is the Porsche Carrera S, which the four-wheel-drive R8 is set to challenge directly on price with a cost of £76,000.

UK cars will come with 19in alloy wheels and a choice of eight metallic colours, with a broad 'blade' of alternate colour just behind the rear doors.

A new R-Tronic gearbox will be offered with the R8, which is a development of the Lamborghini Gallardo's e-gear system. This is likely to cost around £5,000 as an option.

VW Iroc: Mean grean machine

VW Iroc
VW is presenting the VW Iroc concept at the Paris Motor Show and TopGear has a booth report.
Billed as the modern day Scirocco, the Iroc is much more than a Golf in a party frock. The only nods to VW's earlier coupe are the name (Iroc is a sliver from Scirocco) and the colour of the concept.

The metallic Viper Green is a shade that was used by VW in the 1970s.

Otherwise, the Iroc is a thoroughly modern coupe with four spacious seats, and styling inside and out that will make the Audi TT look like the homely cousin.

The Paris car is fitted with a 210bhp TSi petrol engine that combines a supercharger with a turbocharger, and it all drives through a six-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox.

Audi R8: Launched in Paris!

Audi R8
The Audi R8 has finally been launched in Paris, just some minutes ago. Here's all information you should know.
Audi has incorporated the name and the genes of the five-time Le Mans winner, the Audi R8, into a spectacular sports car. Three years after the unveiling of the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, the production version will be making its debut at the Paris Motor Show in the guise of the new Audi R8 mid-engined sports model. It is a fascinating driving machine and the sporty pinnacle of the Audi brand. The mid-mounted 420 bhp V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent four-wheel drive and Audi Space Frame aluminium body form the basis for truly outstanding driving dynamics. The Audi R8 will be available to order from 28 September 2006; first deliveries will be made in the first half of 2007.

As the first Audi mid-engined sports car, the R8 combines Audi's experience gained from numerous motorsport triumphs with groundbreaking design and the acknowledged technological expertise of the brand. This expertise has led to the slogan 'Vorsprung durch Technik' becoming a byword for leading-edge technology both on the race track and on the road.

Audi has recorded countless motorsport victories on race tracks all over the world. Following the rally successes of the Ingolstadt brand in the 1980s, and its triumphs on the touring car circuit, the world of long-distance motor racing was without a doubt the biggest challenge yet faced by Audi’s motorsport engineers.

And they mastered this challenge in style too: the Audi R8 won the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours five times – from 2000 to 2002 and in 2004 and 2005 – and on two occasions even took the first three places.

Le Mans is without doubt the toughest challenge to the Audi Sport Team's engineers because it calls for a level of engineering going far beyond the need merely to keep all the systems focussed on a short, sharp sprint. Alongside the essential virtues of top performance and optimised driving dynamics, the key requirements in long-distance racing are endurance and reliability, allied with optimum ergonomic design.

These are genes which are eminently transferable to a road-going sports car too, and which, allied to its exciting design, make the Audi R8 truly unmistakeable.

The exterior

Even at first glance, the calibre of the car is plain to see. The Audi R8 sits broad and squat on the road, the strongly accentuated rear end appearing to flex its muscles like a sprinter ready for the off.

The characteristic proportions of the vehicle are dictated by the location of the engine behind the cockpit. This layout is a typical feature of race cars. One of the most striking examples of this design – and as such one of the legitimate antecedents of the Audi R8 – was, and still is, the Auto Union Type C Grand Prix car. The central position of the engine is above all a boon to driving dynamics, as it allows for a weight distribution, as on the R8, of 44 percent to the front and 56 percent to the rear.

The car's body is highly compact in appearance. The front end and the gently curved roof arc are drawn in a sweeping line; a line which immediately marks the two-seater out as an Audi.

The side view also reveals familiar contours. The dynamic line above the wheel arches and the shoulder line interlink the front end, side and rear, imbue the doors and the transition to the side air vent with a strong presence, and even more emphatically highlight the typical Audi rounded wheel housings accommodating the big wheels.

The cabin of the Audi R8 is pushed far forward – a typical feature of a mid-engined sports car, and as such a visual cue linking it to the race car of the same name. Behind the cabin, positioned in front of the rear axle, is the V8 FSI engine, a sculptured piece of engineering visible both through the large, shield-shaped rear window and from inside the car.

1.90 metres wide but just 4.43 metres long and 1.25 metres high: these are the proportions of a true sports car. The 2.65-metre wheelbase offers room for the astonishingly spacious cabin and the longitudinally mounted engine behind it. Behind the doors, a large-surface 'sideblade' air deflector sweeps between the wheel arch and the roof section, delivering air for the V8 to breathe as well as for cooling. The paint finish of the sideblades is coordinated with the body colour.

The front end is characterised by the trapezoidal styling of the Audi single-frame grille, flanked on the right and left by additional large-dimensioned air intakes. For the first time, the four-ring badge is positioned on the bonnet, above the grille. The flat strips of the innovative LED headlights, with their clear-glass covers, join flush to the tops of the air intakes.

The R8 is the first series-production car to offer the option of ordering all the headlight functions – dipped beam, main beam, daytime running lights and indicators – as LEDs. LED stands for 'light-emitting diodes', and represents a technology which offers substantial advantages over conventional bulbs based on a much longer life.

Because they take up less space than conventional lights, LEDs provide the designers with greater freedom to be creative. The design of the strikingly three-dimensional main headlights, using LED technology, is particularly eye-catching.

Bionics, in other words drawing design inspiration from nature, has been deployed on the R8's headlights. The light unit has a design reminiscent of an open pine cone. Reflector shells arranged concentrically one behind the other, in conjunction with a powerful LED projection system, concentrate the light from one multi-chip LED, producing a high-luminosity, even form of driving light.

The internal reflectors of the main beam headlight are styled in a shape inspired by the architecture of the Sydney Opera House. And in contrast to them, the daytime running lights delimit the underside of the headlight as narrow strips of light – delivering distinctive signals and providing an innovative visual touch. It will be possible to order LED headlights as options from the end of 2007 onwards.

The interplay of concave and convex lines contours the side-on view of the rear end. Underneath the clearly defined separation edge there is a flat vertical surface framed at its sides by the rear lights – also in LED technology. The third brake light strip runs across virtually the full width of the roof, forming the termination of the transparent engine hood.

The latter feature is yet another visual highlight. The observer looks right onto the V8, the very heart of this sports car. Indirect engine compartment lighting by white LEDs, enabling the engine to be seen even in the dark, is available as an option.

Two large-format diffuser openings in the rear bumper illustrate how intensively the styling of the Audi R8 is dictated by aerodynamics. The two pairs of circular twin exhaust tailpipes each sit at the right and left above the diffuser openings.

An automatically extending rear spoiler is deployed to assist the R8 in using the wind. It provides additional downforce to boost the suction effect produced by the aerodynamic styling of the underbody and by the diffusers. When travelling at lower speeds, the rear spoiler automatically retracts flush with the body.

The full aluminium body is constructed in the Audi Space Frame (ASF) design. Its perfect synthesis of minimal weight and maximum rigidity provides the ideal foundation for optimum driving dynamics, as well as delivering an outstanding power-to-weight ratio of just 3.71 kg per bhp.

The interior

The sporty interior is dominated by a totally driver-oriented cockpit architecture, integrating the driver between the dashboard and the high centre console. The instrument panel above the console is angled slightly towards the driver. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is a typical feature of the sportiest Audi models, and also enables comfortable sports car entry and exit.

Form follows function: this design principle is implemented throughout the Audi R8. Alongside the driver-oriented architecture, also reflected in the styling of the side window sills, the choice of materials also makes for a highly functional look and feel. Looking around when in the driving seat makes one thing clear: just like in the R8 race car, the styling and placement of all the elements in the cockpit of this driving machine is focussed on the essentials. The centrepoint of everything is the driver.

This combination of the aesthetic and the ergonomic is maintained in the colours used and the overall ambience created – dark hues reflect the emphasis on engineering and are again reminiscent of the motorsport world. The impression of professional functionality and ergonomic styling is enhanced by the visible presence of top-quality materials in supreme craftsmanship.

The sports seats are trimmed as standard in a Leather/Alcantara combination, or optionally in full leather. Alternatively, the R8 can also be fitted with bucket seats, specially developed by quattro GmbH. There is plenty of room for the two occupants, with comfort levels well beyond the norm of high-performance sports cars. There is space behind the seats to stow large bags, or even two golf bags. The luggage compartment at the front has a capacity of 100 litres.

With numerous trim variants and applications in Piano finish or Carbon sigma, there are few limits to the range of customisation options for the interior.

The drive train

Turbine-like power up to the highest rev ranges, a high maximum torque, all combined with a fascinating sound, are the characteristics of a perfect sports car engine. An engine that is fascinating both in terms of its enormous power potential and its suitability for everyday use.

In the high-revving 420 bhp eight-cylinder engine, the evolution of FSI petrol direct injection technology has reached a new high. This technology has also enjoyed many triumphs in the Audi R8 race car.

The figures illustrate the outstanding potential of the eight-cylinder unit. At 7,800 rpm the 4.2-litre engine delivers 309 kW (420 bhp) of power output. Peak torque is 430 Newton-metres from 4.500 to 6,000 rpm. And no less than 90 per cent of this maximum torque is maintained consistently throughout a wide engine speed range from 3,500 all the way to 7,600 rpm. As a result of these qualities, the eight-cylinder power unit provides maximum thrust in virtually any driving situation.

The performance figures are equally impressive: the R8 accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 301 km/h.

The engine is a high-revving unit. The maximum engine speed is 8,250 rpm. The advantages of this principle are superior power output at high engine speeds and a smooth, eager responsiveness all across the revs range. Added to this are its agility, liveliness and engine sound, which is similar to that of a race car.

The Audi R8's dry sump lubrication – another technology originating directly from motor racing – provides the ideal basis for maximum longitudinal and lateral acceleration. It allows the V8 to be installed lower, thereby lowering the centre of gravity and further enhancing driving dynamics.

Two transmissions are available: a manual 6-speed gearbox or optionally the Audi R tronic sequential-shift gearbox. Here, too, the influence of the motorsport world is clearly evident, with a joystick gear-shift on the centre console and, most especially, the paddles mounted on the steering wheel, which are a long-established ergonomic feature in motorsport. The best illustration of this is once again the Le Mans winning Audi R8, which also enables the driver to change gear on the steering wheel.

'Shift by wire' technology provides for very fast gear-shifting and an outstanding power-to-weight ratio, allied to compact gearbox dimensions. The Sport mode, with its fast shifting, guarantees the absolute maximum in terms of driving fun. An automatic mode can also be selected.

Such a powerful Audi is of course fitted with permanent four-wheel drive, which distributes the power variably to the front and rear axles by way of a viscous clutch. On the Audi R8 the legendary quattro system is adapted to the axle load distribution typical of mid-engined cars.

The chassis

The chassis features forged aluminium double wishbones at the front and rear. At the front they are triangulated, while at the rear the top one is triangulated and the bottom one is a triangulated wishbone with a track rod. This provides for optimum wheel control, and is a geometry which has proved itself to be the ideal solution in delivering agility, maximum steering precision and precisely defined self-steering characteristics.

Direct, hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering provides optimum feedback to assist the driver.

The spring and damper set-up is stiff in order to deliver maximum driving dynamics, while still providing a quite astonishing level of ride comfort. This is particularly true when the 'Audi magnetic ride' adaptive damper system is chosen as an alternative to the standard gas-filled shock absorbers.

The reason for this is that these shock absorbers employ an innovative technology. Instead of the conventional damper fluid, a magnetorheological fluid is used – in other words, a fluid whose viscosity can be influenced by an electromagnetic field. This effect enables the damping characteristic to be influenced electronically at will and instantaneously, by applying a voltage to the electromagnets.

Audi magnetic ride uses this property to deliver the correct damping forces in every driving situation, thus optimising ride comfort and driving dynamics. A computer equipped with sensor technology determines the prevailing driving situation in a matter of milliseconds. Drivers can choose from two driving programs depending on whether they want to drive in a highly sporty style – with the magnetorheological fluid adjusted to a low viscosity – or with the emphasis more on ride comfort.

The Audi R8 is fitted with 6-arm 18-inch wheels as standard, and can optionally be ordered with 19-inch wheels. The 235/40 size tyres at the front and up to 285/35 at the rear provide the necessary road-holding. This tyre configuration also ensures that this mid-engined sports car is always able to translate the dynamism of its drive train and chassis into optimum grip and maximum lateral dynamics.

The mid-engined sports car's long wheelbase and extremely low centre of gravity ensure that it always retains maximum stability, resulting in superb agility, finely attuned responsiveness to any driver input, and high levels of safety.

Equipment and trim

Even the standard equipment of the Audi R8 meets the high demands of customers in this segment. Xenon plus lights, LED rear lights and daytime running lights, 18-inch aluminium wheels, an audio system with 7-inch monitor, an anti-theft alarm and Leather/Alcantara interior trim are just some of the items on the extensive list of standard features.

The range of optional extras leaves virtually nothing to be desired. A Bang & Olufsen sound system, featuring an output of 465 watts and 12 specially designed speakers, delivers surround sound of the highest standard. A microphone-based vehicle noise compensation system adjusts audio levels to changing road conditions and speeds.

The acoustic parking system and a rear-view camera help the driver to manoeuvre into even the tightest of spaces. The radio/navigation system plus, featuring a large-format colour monitor and MMI keypad, combines extensive functionality with extreme user-friendliness.

A range of coordinated and ideally combinable design and leather trim packages from Audi and from quattro GmbH can turn any R8 into the customer’s personal dream car.

The wheels range offers design alternatives in sizes of 18 and 19 inches, fitted with 235/35 size tyres at the front and up to 295/30 at the rear. A total of eight exterior colours are available, from Ibis White to Phantom Black, pearl effect.

The craftsmanship

The Audi R8 is being built on a small-lot production line in a specially constructed new block at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm. The entire production process – from the bodyshell construction to final assembly – is organised in the same way as a craft workshop. Small teams of specialists accompany every step of production, subjecting every part and component to intense scrutiny. This ensures that every one of the maximum of 15 cars per day built will more than match the customary high quality standards of the Audi product range.

Porsche Cayman: With Rinspeed Adjustments!

Porsche Cayman
The Porsche Cayman is one of our favourite cars here on . And now it just got better!
With styling cues inspired by its 997-based Indy, Zurich-based Rinspeed has developed an appearance and light tuning package for the Porsche Cayman. Dubbed "Imola," the slinky Cayman gets a blazing orange finish that's accented with Rinspeed's checkered-flag motif introduced on the Indy-- a love-it-or-hate-it element that we could certainly do without.

The bodywork incorporates new skirts in front and back with rocker panels to match. The rear skirt features a diffuser insert that accommodates either a center-exit or dual exhaust, which Rinspeed can also provide along with new headers and cats. Our opinion: the dual-exhaust version shown after the jump looks super. Handling is improved thanks to the tuner's suspension upgrades, which range from new coilovers to a full kit that fully integrates with the factory Porsche PASM system. Simple, good-looking five-spoke aluminum wheels complete the picture.

Audi A5: Exposed!

Audi A5
You have seen smaller versions of the pics here, but now Fourtitude got their hands on the source pics.
Though perhaps not as widely anticipated as the upcoming R8 sportscar, Audi’s impending A5 coupe is possibly closest to the hearts of the most ardent Audiphiles. Sure, Audi builds another coupe in the form of the TT, but those who lament the long-gone UrQuattro and Coupe quattro models yearn for a spiritual successor. Just such a successor will come as one of the first offerings to make use of Audi’s modular longitudinal vehicle architecture.

What you see here are some of the first photos seen of the upcoming A5 Coupe. Shot by an eagle-eyed Munich realtor, these photos reveal a shape strikingly similar to the Nuvolari concept from 2003. Even with the disguise at front and rear, it’s easy to see the low profile roofline that is considerably more aggressive than Audi’s sedan offerings.

Judging by the exhaust pipes on the black test mule, these are probably A5 mules, and not rumored S5 or RS5 models that are expected to follow with bigger displacement, more cylinders and more exhaust pipes.

Multiple test mules have been photographed by spy photographers over the past few months, most of them such early prototypes that they’ve worn B7 body pieces grafted on to the car. This is the first actual B8 mule we’ve seen thus far that wears the body expected when it goes into production. Though disguised at the front and rear, the Nuvolari-inspired profile is hard to miss. Other notable details include what looks like new production exterior rearview mirrors with built-in side repeaters. Additionally, it appears the A5 will benefit from Audi’s Open Sky sunroof design, appearing to be fitted on the black test mule.

VW Golf Plus Cross: First official pictures

VW Golf Plus Cross
Here are the first official pictures of the VW Golf Plus Cross, a MPV which will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
This version, which should not be confused with the upcoming Golf based SUV, the Tiguan, gets a new set of SUV inspired bumpers, 17" alloys and black coloured body protectors. In the interior, the only difference seem to be the aluminium decorations on the dashboard. It's still unknown if the Golf Plus Cross will be available with an optional 4wheel drive system (Haldex) but form the information available now, we know that it's engine range will consisit of three 4cylinder motors: 102 Hp 1.6, 140 Hp 1.4 TSI & 1.9 TDI (105 & 140 Hp). Sales will begin in Europe in January 2007.

Audi Q7: Audacious SUV makes for grand motoring

Audi Q7
Very nice review of the Audi Q7.
For all of the many mountain Audi-philes who had secretly hoped that Audi’s blend of cool German precision might suddenly be rolled up in a great honkin’ American-sized SUV finally got their wish in the larger-than-life Audi Q7.

Beefy, powerful and curiously substantial, the Q7 takes all of the poise of Audi’s time-tested Quattro AWD system (not to mention 350 horses of 4.2 liter V8 power), boosts it up, stretches it out and puts together an all-weather people-and-cargo carrier that’s cutting-edge stylish, comfortable.

The Q7’s clearly not the vehicle of choice for everyone, but for those seeking SUV largess with Audi quality and refinement, this may be a good choice; expect to see a load of them on the (paved) mountain roads this fall and winter.

Audi TT Roadster, Audi TT S: Spy shots!

According to Lehmann’s Hidden Image crew, the TT-S (below) will be motivated by the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from Audi’s A3, putting out around 280 horsepower. So-equipped, the TT-S should fell 62 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. The car could also come to market as the Audi TT S-Line.
Hidden Image also maintains that plans remain afoot for an even hotter TT-RS, with a 2.5 five-cylinder good for 350 horsepower.

Audi TT: Launch event in Tokyo

Audi TT Night in Tokyo

Here's our long-awaited report about the launch of the Audi TT last week in Tokyo.

Audi Japan is renowned for choosing the coolest, trendiest and uniquest locations for launching new products. The launch of the new Audi TT in Japan therefore was no exception and truly another milestone in their launch history, because it topped everything seen before. Audi Japan provided the biggest fleet ever with 12 displayed Audi TT's.

Audi Japan had the great chance to launch the new Audi TT at The National Art Center in Tokyo, a location which has never been used before. Built by the famous architect Kisho Kurokawa it is currently in the focus of attention among Tokyo's society. This museum has no permanent collection, but will feature different exhibitions with different topics, themes and styles. The TT as a design icon is now recognized as the first "piece of art" exhibited at the National Art Center Tokyo.

In addition, and following the true "Vorsprung" spirit and philosophy, Audi Japan was probably the first car company in Japan to invite representatives from the consumer-generated media division to such an important event. They invited the owner and chief editor of Audistyle.com, Tai Watanabe, to participate and provide the growing Audi community with a report and pictures of the Audi TT launch event and give an independent view on it.

Currently Audistyle.com is the no. 1 website for all Audi enthusiasts in Japan with a very strong community with more than 7000 members.

And now, enough words. Enjoy the pics of this unforgettable event! Click the pictures to enlarge.

Audi TT 3.2 V6 quattro: Comparison against BMW Z4 3.0 Si

Audi TT
We found a very nice comparison of the Audi TT against the BMW Z4, no doubt something many people will do. Winner? Thanks for asking, but do you still have any doubts that the new Audi TT is the best out there? Read on to be convinced.
The first generation Audi TT was one of the big automotive hits of the last few years - and with waiting lists for the new model already growing, it's continued sales success looks pretty much assured. But does Audi's sporting coupe deserve the plaudits that have been heaped upon it - does it have what it takes to enter at the top of its hard-fought segment?

Against it we're putting the 3.0 Si Z4, meaning a straight six engine and 263 bhp channelled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. In "SE" trim as tested here it will set you back £31,400.

May the best coupe win.

Two brilliant cars - but only one winner. Congratulations to Audi for taking a well-deserved victory with what proves the better all-rounder.

Z4:4 stars

Audi TT 3.2 quattro: Motoring preview

Audi TT
A motoring preview of the new Audi TT by UK's AutoExpress. Looks very hot in red!
Designers have stuck to a winning formula, opting for a gentle evolution of the TT shape, rather than anything groundbreaking. It certainly has a more muscular stance than its predecessor, and the styling is aggressive enough to help it match the Porsche Cayman – a rival which Audi has firmly in its sights.

As seems to be the current trend for new cars, the TT is longer and wider than its predecessor, but thanks to the increased use of aluminium in its construction, it’s actually 90kg lighter and has better weight distribution. This is instantly noticeable in the handling. The Audi turns in sharply and corners with minimum fuss, while quattro four-wheel drive means grip is excellent.

Audi TT: UK launch report

Audi TT
Here's a report about the UK launch of the new Audi TT.
What a month for Audi. On September 3 Allan McNish won the American Le Mans Series driver's crown at Canada's Mosport Park circuit near Toronto driving a diesel-powered Audi R10, and now the first lucky owners of the born-again TT Coupé are about to take delivery of an iconic masterpiece.

The original TT is an icon, but its successor will steal its crown. Better balanced, generously equipped, more refined, superbly styled and roomier than the 1999 ground-breaker which rewrote the sports coupé desirability listings, the new TT has the unmistakable DNA of its predecessor but is honed to a level of perfection which has to be experienced to be believed.

Audi TT: A pair of tweaked TTs from German tuner PPI

Audi TT
They have actually tuned the "old" Audi TT, but it's still great to see these pics. Nice job!
But why Audi, and in particular the TT? "I love the Audi marque," Abraham gushed. "I don't think that any other company comes close in terms of technological achievement in the automotive field, and the TT was a perfect car to start with. Very sporty, perfectly proportioned, but there's one problem. It's missing the 'press-your-head-into-your-seat-until-you-scream' feeling when you hit the accelerator pedal."

When I first saw the RS blue coupe I couldn't help but think that if Audi were to build a TT supercar this is how it would look. The fit and finish of the matte carbon-fiber trim is as good as anything AMG is fitting to its DTM cars. The hollow carbon rear wing is a work of art with its weaves perfectly laid and aligned, and the electronically activated mountings seamlessly integrated. The rear wing is no boy-racer add-on, and has been tested up to 190 mph on the autobahn.

Audi RS4: Test drive review

Audi RS4
Here's another nice review of the Audi RS4 inluding some great pics.
At the heart of the RS4 is its excellent engine, which is a 4.2-liter V8 that delivers 420hp at 7,800rpm and 317 lb-ft of torque at 6,000rpm. It features Audi's acclaimed FSI Direct Injection, which was developed in the R8 prototype race car. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, which is the only transmission offered on this car. The suspension is pretty straightforward for a high performance sedan, with an independent 4-link layout in front with single-tube shocks and coil springs, and a double-wishbone layout in the rear. The RS4 also uses anti-roll bars on both ends.

In design, the RS4 is unmistakably an Audi and is possibly the best looking model in Audi's current model lineup.

The RS4's obvious competitor is the BMW M3, and while some may still find the M3 better as a pure driver's car, the RS4 has some distinct advantages and is a serious rival to the M3 in performance. For one thing, it has four doors. While BMW has not decided yet whether the new M3 coming in late 2007 will have a four door version, Audi has the RS4 now and is no doubt selling some to BMW enthusiasts who wish the current E46 M3 did have four doors (BMW did offer a four-door version with the previous E36 M3). Quattro is also a key selling point with the RS4, particularly if you drive the car year-round in any region that gets snow or ice during winter months.

Overall, we came away very impressed with the RS4. It's the best driver's car Audi has ever made and has set the mark pretty high when it comes to sub-$70,000 sports sedans.

Audi Q7: First drive by CNet

Audi Q7
CNet took the Audi Q7 out for a spin watching more the gadget side of it.
But let's jump into the electronics. The Q7 is loaded out with navigation, Bluetooth, a premium Bose sound system, voice command, and some interesting extras including Side Assist, a technology that watches for cars in the blind spots and alerts the driver. The electronics are accessed through Audi's Multi-Media Interface (MMI), which we've always found very usable. It also has adequate redundant controls for things such as stereo volume and temperature.

This is a car that I'm looking forward to driving.

Audi S6: German precision, Italian passion

Audi S6
The Audi S6 comes with German precision and Italian precision. Who are we to argue? The Audi S6 is definitely one of our dream cars here.
The S6 is therefore aimed at the understated power executive not necessarily interested in making the loudest statement in every parking lot, but one who appreciates blowing the cobwebs out of drab everyday commutes with a little frenetic redline tickling every once in a while.

Should an S6 come up behind you on the road, those LED lights just below the normal headlights really stand out in your rear-view mirror. They are five small, loonie-sized lighted circles on each side that represent the 10 cylinders that are making all this power, as well as reinforcing the circular theme of the Audi logo at the same time. Brilliant work, those bits, and it really gives the S6 a unique face when turned on.

The car is so luxury-car quiet while tooling around town, the six-speed automatic transmission doing a masterful job of shielding the driver and passengers from any uncivilized jerkiness, that your first stomp on the right pedal brings about unexpectedly startling acceleration.

Bavarian refinement plus lusty Italian passion equals S6; that's the kind of automotive equation worthy of a few extra years of post-secondary study.

Audi R10: The story in 128 pages

Audi R10
The story of the Audi R10 is now available in the shops for just 29 Euro.
By claiming the first victory of a diesel-powered sportscar in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans AUDI AG has written another important chapter in motorsport history. Only one month after the finish of the race at Le Mans on June 18th, 2006 the book covering the historic triumph is launched: "Audi R10 – TDI Power” traces the development of the revolutionary diesel-powered sportscar on 128 pages with large-size photographs. Audi has opened its archives, releasing pictures from the concept stage via the trial phases including crash and wind tunnel tests through to the first tests on the track and the victorious runs in the 12-Hour race at Sebring (USA) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The witty texts contributed by the renowned Austrian author Herbert Völker guarantee a maximum of reading pleasure. The preface was written by Professor Doctor Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. Other quotes includes those of Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport, the engineers from Audi Sport and, of course, the Audi factory drivers who took the R10 TDI to victory at Le Mans only 200 days after the roll-out.

"Audi R10 – TDI Power” (128 pages, size: 23 x 33 centimetres) has been published bilingually (German/English) by Heel-Verlag, selling for 29 euros at specialised bookshops. The book can also be ordered on the Internet from the racing1.de online shop.

VW Touareg 3.6: Review

VW Touareg
A short review of the 2007 VW Touareg.
For 2007, Volkswagen has added 0.4 liter--little more than a twelve-ounce soda can--to the displacement of the base Touareg's 3.2-liter V-6. The extra piston displacement bumps output to 276 hp and 266 lb-ft (increases of 36 hp and 37 lb-ft), while the addition of direct fuel injection helps return essentially identical fuel mileage. The V-6 Touareg is now about a second quicker to 60 mph.

VW Jetta: Diesels coming to the US?

VW Jetta
A clean diesel powered VW Jetta was spotted in the US! Is this the first sign that the TDI will have its entry in the US? Hopefully yes. If so, forget all those hybrids. TDI will rule the streets.
All right, big news: I personally was in the presence of a 2008-model Jetta TDI this afternoon! It was at the Boston "Altwheels" festival as a clean-diesel demonstrator car, and will be there tomorrow and Saturday as well for any who want to see it in person. The car was beautiful, and seemed to be set up in an unusual way. It had a 6-speed manual, a nav system, leatherette seats, GTI-style projector headlamps, really nice uplevel wheels, and of course the new-generation 2.0L Common Rail TDI, which they said is clean enough for 50-state certification.

I spoke extensively with the VW guys who brought the car there--one was an emissions chief in Michigan named Norbert, with a German accent, and the other was a government-relations honcho based in DC--and they were a little vague on the details, but at least they let me take some pictures. They said the engine has about 140hp and 240lb-ft, and would start out in Jettas but probably end up in at least the Rabbit as well, and maybe more models beyond that. From what I could tell looking at the engine (they wouldn't let me pull the plastic cover off), it has a timing belt arrangement like the old VE-pump cars, with what might be a high-pressure fuel supply/lift pump mounted where the rotary injection pump went on the older motors. Everything else looked like it does on a current-model Jetta PD. The redline looked to be at about 4500 rpm, so basically where it is now. I have to say, this engine was so quiet I literally had trouble believing it was a diesel. It was far quieter than the new Toyota Camry gasser idling next to it, for instance. They said there is extensive exhaust aftertreatment, including catalyst, particle filter, etc, but no urea injection (a good thing, I'd say).

VW Golf, VW Jetta: City Golf and City Jetta for Canada

VW City Golf, VW City Jetta
File this under: "How to sell your former models, because they are still popular".
If you cross the border into Canada, it's a different story entirely. You see, the old Golf and Jetta are still available as 2007 models ... right alongside the new Rabbit and Jetta.

The 2007 City Golf starts at $14,900 CAD ($13,203 USD), while the City Jetta opens at $16,700 CAD ($14,797 USD). At this point, you're wondering why anyone would buy the old cars when the Rabbit starts at $14,990 USD. Simple: In Canada, the Rabbit is a lot more expensive, with a starting price of $19,990 CAD for the 3-door. That's $17,720 USD.

VW Canada execs decided that 20 grand was too high an asking price to simply get into a VW, and so the City Golf and City Jetta were born.

Audi A8: Autobahn burner

Audi A8
Here's a very cool review of the Audi A8 called "Autobahn burner". They also have a nice slideshow of pics.
"The A8 is an astonishingly good car, even at the price and given considerable competition from its countrymen. Unless a major competitor provides some techy feature you cannot live without, I'd recommend the A8 over the equivalent BMW or Mercedes, if only as a more self-confident and understated alternative. With the A8, Audi's proved its flagship's worth— not only vis-à-vis the Autobahn legend, inflated or not, but for all roads everywhere."

Bentley: Will hit 10.000 sold cars mark soon

Bentley
The story of Bentley is a success story after Volkswagen has taken over the steering. From 995 to 10.000 sold cars in 3 years! Impressive facts, impressive cars.
The resurgence of Bentley Motors under the Volkswagen Group is nothing short of astonishing. In 2003, the storied marque sold 995 cars. This year, they are set to hit the 10,000 mark. Think about that. In three years, the company has managed to increase sales by 10 times. It should be noted that Bentley is unlikely to shoot for anything much higher than 10,000 in order to maintain the exclusivity it enjoys as a super-premium brand. That said, Bentley will continue to develop and release new products that will help it maintain its current pace.

Audi Q5: Spy shots!

Audi Q5
We found some spy shots of the Audi Q5, running around as test mule on public streets. A must see! For even more pics, please check the source.
According to Hans Lehmann over at Hidden Image, the funky-looking wagon seen above will sit on a platform that consolidates elements from Audi’s next-generation A4 and A6, and is likely to be longer than the aforementioned X3, as well as rival Mercedes-Benz’s forthcoming GLK. The massively-flared test mule looks more like an Allroad on steroids than a proper SUV, but expect final bodywork to give mimic a Q7 that’s been run through the dryer on high heat.

The Q5 is expected to join the Q7 in showrooms in early 2008.

Porsche Panamera: Even More Spy Shots!

Porsche Panamera
Just a few days ago we saw for the first time the Panamera's bodywork. We now found some more spy shots. Read the source for even more pics!
The “First Lady of the Nürburgring” (better known as Brenda Priddy) has reeled in some even clearer shots of Porsche’s upcoming Panamera. The car isn’t expected to get its official debut until the 2009 Geneva show, but the car is already quite far along in development, as evidenced by this ‘Ring-bound test mule.

The new shots suggest that the fixed rear wing seen in other spy shots is in fact a moveable unit, and the rear bumper cap and taillamps already look to be production-ready pieces, even if the roof and window treatments remain something of a mystery.

Priddy’s people suggest that the base engine will be Volkswagen’s 3.5-liter six-cylinder, putting out 300 bhp, and upper-level Panameras will benefit from Porsche’s direct-injection eight-cylinder, available in 350 bhp naturally aspirated, as well as with twin turbos giving 560 bhp. Priddy even suggests that if competitors like Mercedes-Benz’s CLS continue to churn out even bigger numbers, the car could see a V-10 good for 700 bhp.

Audi TT: Audi aerodynamics advance even further

Audi TT
Although we don't agree with the "best car" statement over at Scotsman, we do agree that the Audi TT is definitely the best buy!
Actually the list price of the TT is £29,285 but you really have to specify Audi's unique flappy paddle gearshift. Unlike rival systems, notably from Ferrari, the Audi item was developed for international rallying and worked perfectly straight out of the box.

You can use it to extract every last bit of performance from the willing V6 engine or you can simply leave it in fully automatic mode when commuting or driving around town. Actually, I tended to leave it in fully automatic mode all the time and simply hung on to the steering wheel but don't think it cost me any time at all.

Audi Q3: Artist impression

Audi Q3
Here's an artist impression of the Audi Q3 from our favorite South African car website. Enjoy!
The small Q3 will take on soft-roaders such as the Land Rover Freelander and Toyota RAV4.

Audi will position the Q3 as an independent model range and not as a 3-door version of the Q5.

In fact it seems as if it won't get any Q5 genes and will rather share its underpinnings with that of VW's forthcoming Golf-based SUV.

According to the Septembter edition of topCar the Q3 will feature transverse engines and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

Where the five-door Q5 model will go on sale in 2008, the Q3 will probably only follow in 2009.

Audi R8: Supercar in the wild!

Audi R8
More and more people are seeing the Audi R8 in the wild. And all of them are pretty impressed!
Just a word of advice to all spy shot makers out there: once you have them, don't upload the pics to free services like Photobucket. Your bandwidth will exceed very fast and nobody can see your pics...
Went on a camping trip this weekend with the girl. After we stopped for lunch she did declare so "Hey, thats a neat car". After following the path of her pointed finger, I proceeded to make primal noises and weave my way through highway traffic until I could confirm what I thought I saw.

Two things before the pictures.
1) The sound was that of a norse god.
2) See 1.

VW Eos: Driving impressions

VW Eos
We found a nice report of driving impressions with the VW Eos.
The Eos is a very pleasant small car. Volkswagen PR folks describe it as affordable aspiration and it fills the bill. Priced at $27,990 for the base car, it can be equipped to just shy of $40,000 when all the boxes are checked on a 3.2L V6 version.

While the Eos has very pleasant styling, it is not a head-turner. With the top up, it can get lost in the crowd. But, with the top down, its personality comes out. Even the waterlogged denizens of Portland stopped to comment on Eos versatility. Finally, a car they can use 24/7/52/365.

Bentley Continental GTC: Motoring preview

Bentley Continental GTC
5 stars from AutoExpress in their motoring preview for the Bentley Continental GTC, that's enough reason to read it. Don't you think?
Bentley’s GTC is truly special. Its roof looks fantastic up or down, and the drive is every bit as impressive as the GT coupé’s. Throw in superb build and a great sense of occasion, and Bentley fans will be smitten. It’s really only a two-seater, has limited boot space and should prove thirstier than the GT thanks to its extra weight, but it’s still one of the best luxury cabriolets in the world.

Porsche Panamera: More Spy Shots!

Porsche Panamera
Here are some more shots of the upcoming Panamera during it's testing.
Wendelin Wiedeking has just recently announced, in an interview with the German motoring magazine Auto Motor & Sport, that Porsche's new four-door coupe, dubbed Panamera, has begun its testing marathon at the challenging Nuerburgring this week--and we have the first pictures that show the real car in full action.

Scheduled for an official presentation at the 2009 Geneva show, the Panamera is expected to be a strong competitor to the Mercedes CLS and the future Aston Martin Rapide, as well as Volkswagen's upcoming four-door coupe.

Though the Panamera takes over design elements from the 911 range, there will obviously be significant differences. While the 911 has always kept its rear-mounted boxer engine, the Panamera will have a choice of three front-mounted motors, although they'll be set back to the center of the car as much as possible.

The entry-level powerplant will be Volkswagen's 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine with 300 bhp, while Porsche's own drivetrain will be a direct-injection eight-cylinder gas engine, available in naturally-aspirated guise (350 bhp) and with twin turbos (560 bhp). That should be enough to beat out the competition for a while. However, should Stuttgart make the CLS even stronger, Zuffenhausen might strike back with the Porsche GT's 700-bhp ten-cylinder powerplant!

The target for the Panamera is to be a true sportscar, while at the same time being a "family car" for every-day use with four full seats, easy access to the rear and a good-sized luggage compartment.

When it hits the road in 2009, Porsche hopes to be able to sell 20,000 units annually--and to jump over the barrier of 100,000 sold cars per year.

Audi R8: Preview

Audi R8
The guys from Fourtitude have put together a nice preview of the Audi R8, also revealing some new "facts" or are they rumors? A must see! Go and read.
As the autumn air grows more crisp, the tension around the launch of Audi’s Project AU714, also known as “R8”, is building to a virtual crescendo. The car’s debut is now only a matter of days, rather than weeks, away. Though more and more development mules continue to appear, two just last week in Arizona alone and spotted multiple times, Audi has kept production photos and detailed information regarding the car’s release quite close to the vest… to the chagrin of enthusiasts and automotive journalists alike.

Word from inside is that this has been the most closely and successfully held new model launches by Audi ever – a considerable feat considering all the hype that has surrounded it. No doubt, it has certainly been the most extensive, with spy photos and executive hints trickling out regularly – no doubt part of an extensive P.R. blitz that will peak in one week.

Rumors about the car continue to run rampant… some more easily believed than others. In a previous report, this publication amassed and commented upon the theories that bore some weight. More recent contact with sources has netted a clarification and several new pieces of information.

Up until last week, the assumption was that Audi would reveal the car at a 4 PM during the Thursday September 28 press conference listed on the Paris Auto Show – the first day of the Paris Auto Show’s Media Days. More recently, it has been reveealed that the car will now be shown during an evening function in Paris on September 27. This publication plans on attending and covering the event, with a report to be filed straight away.

A credible source tells us that actual series production for AU714 is set to begin at the end of the month. Why such a quick turnaround? Answer: Audi is proud of their history.

The R8 is set to be built, like its aluminum brethren, in Audi’s Neckarsulm facility. This same facility began production with the 10 horsepower “Neckarsulmer Motorwagen” in September, 1906. So the story goes, Audi intends to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NSU plant in Neckarsulm with the first R8 to roll off the line before month’s end.

A second body style R8, probably a convertible, is also expected. Some sources hint that the car could appear sooner rather than later. How soon? Sources are coy, but we’ve heard everything from “Paris”, to “Los Angeles”, to “no comment”. With Audi’s rapidfire new model introduction schedule, none of these suggestions seems unbelievable.

Audi: Prime London location for world's largest Audi centre

Audi
Now, that's really great news. The world's largest Audi center will be build in London.
- Work begins on West London Audi on the Great West Road in Middlesex on September 18 - completion scheduled for spring 2008
- £30m+ Audi investment in the Capital
- World’s largest Audi Centre building will offer 17,667 square metres of retail, service, office, conference, exhibition and museum space
- New car display space will be level with the M4 elevated section, placing the Audi range in full view of millions of drivers entering and leaving London

Work on the creation of a major new landmark for Audi and for London begins today (September 18) as foundations are laid for the world’s largest Audi Centre on a prime site alongside one of the Capital’s key arterial roads.

The five storeys of elegantly curved glass and steel that will be home to West London Audi from the spring of 2008 will flank the elevated section of the M4 above the Great West Road in Middlesex, which carries thousands of potential Audi customers to and from the heart of London every day.

The five external floors, and an additional two underground levels, provide a total of over 17,000 square metres of space, a sizeable proportion of which will be dedicated to the sale and maintenance of the rapidly expanding Audi range, which by 2008 will include new arrivals such as the forthcoming R8 super car and the A5 Coupé. The attractions will go well beyond the ‘showroom’ norm though, with a museum, flexible exhibition space, an internet café and a boutique all helping to immerse visitors in the brand, its values and its heritage. Extensive catered conference facilities available for hire will also provide businesses with a prestigious new meeting venue.

When it opens for business in 2008, West London Audi will be one of three key Audi regional ‘hubs’ stretching across the country. The first of these - Glasgow Audi - opened in Braehead in 2004, and the next in line will be Birmingham Audi, scheduled for completion in early 2007.

Commenting on the new London Audi landmark, Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks said: “We are delighted that work on a suitably spectacular home for Audi in London is about to get under way. West London Audi will be an extraordinary showcase both for Audi cars and for the philosophy of Vorsprung durch Technik, and couldn’t really be in a much more strategically perfect location. This is another major milestone in the remarkable rise of the Audi brand in the UK.”

Audi TT: Tuned by ABT

Audi TT
Here are more pics of the ABT tuning of the Audi TT. Enjoy!
German tuner Abt Sportsline has released the details of its rather extensive tuning program for the new Audi TT. Three levels are available: TT-R, TT-Sport, and TT-iS.

The TT-R is the monster of the group, generating 355 horsepower and making the run to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. ABT is light on the details regarding how it gets the power number up there, but we'll assume it's primarily through supercharging, since that's how they get 310 horsepower out of the 3.2L TT-Sport.

The 2.0-liter TT is not in any way neglected, either. In TT-Sport trim, the car generates 270 hp -- a substantial increase over the stock 200. With the TT-iS (intelligentSport), Abt has modified the engine management system to provide a performance bump commensurate with the grade of fuel used. When running on the highest grade of gasoline, max power is 240 horses. In addition to that, they offer a gearbox mod that increases the car's fuel economy.

Porsche 911 C4S: The Dark Angel!

Porsche 911 C4S
Here's a great review of the C4S Cabriolet!
There are worse things in life than driving a 911 C4S Cabriolet every day. In fact, I can think of quite a few things I’d rather not do. Even in stock form the 911 is still one of the best sports cars money can buy. And when you’re talking about a Carrera 4S, well, that only multiplies the fun by about thirty extra horsepower and two more drive wheels.
This particular cabriolet runs under the WTW banner, specifically the wheel-and-tire giant’s GFG line of high-end, modular forged wheels. And believe it or not, it is a daily driver, piloted by the boss’s wife. Apparently she’s a bit of a stickler when it comes to perfection, so once the car was positioned for photos it may as well have been confined in a plastic bubble: nobody in, nobody out. And hey, watch those finger smudges, damn it!

Bugatti Veyron: Don't have a million in cash? Why not lease?

Bugatti Veyron
The Bugatti Veyron is now offered with a leasing option.
First, if you want to lease a Veyron you'll need to take the college fund you set up for your kids, empty out your 401-K and get an advance on your parents' will to afford the car's $400,000 down payment. Then you'll have to figure out how to scrape together $23,595 for your first month's payment. And then you'll have to repeat that feat another 60 times, as the Veyron is only offered with a five-year lease. You are afforded 2,500 miles a year, which means if you're planning on using the Bugatti as a daily driver you'll be taking the bus a lot. There's no word on what the penalty is for going over that limit, but expect to forego a 50-inch plasma TV for every mile over.

When all is said and done you will have shelled out $1,815,700 for the privilege of driving a Bugatti Veyron without the hassles of ownership, which happens to be over $400,000 more than the car's $1.4 million Buy-it-Now price.

Audi: Sponsorship deal with FC Barcelona

Audi
This doesn't look like a big deal at first glance, but if you are into soccer and you probably know that Audi is also sponsoring Real Madrid, archrival of FC Barcelona, then you know that this news is in fact a big deal!

For us, it was a natural choice as Audi's Spanish importer VAESA is situated in Barcelona.
Audi and FC Barcelona have agreed terms on Thursday for a deal by which the German car manufacturer will become a sponsor and official supplier of the football club for the next two seasons.

The presentation of the deal was attended by Audis Spanish division manager Jesús Gasanz, and FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, as well a selection of representatives of Frank Rijkaard's squad. Audi presented models of its brand new Audi Q7s to each member of the FC Barcelona first team.

Through this deal, yet another top brand has joined the group of renowned companies that sponsor the club. Audi has gained worldwide recognition for its sporting, dynamic, creative and modern values. Audi has become a club sponsor because it was attracted by size and stature of the Catalan giants, which, according to a company spokesman, "extends our emotional connection to thousands of football supporters".

Audi has become the first official FC Barcelona sponsor to also secure advertising rights, which involves the right to associate itself to the club's name and create joint marketing ventures involving both the team and the company.

VW Passat 2.0T: Review

VW Passat
We found an interesting review of the VW Passat 2.0T.
Volkswagen is one of the few automakers to currently sell wagons in the U.S., and over the years its Jetta and Passat wagons have gained almost cult-like followings. But nobody is being brainwashed - logic can work as well as emotion. A compact or mid-size wagon is every bit as useful as a similarly-sized crossover, and has the advantage of being a car. Meaning that it's lower, for easier passenger and cargo access. And also for better handling. With changes to the VW lineup in the past couple of years, a Jetta wagon is not currently offered, but there is a new Passat wagon for the 2007 model year. I've been driving one for the past week, and it compares very favorably with the crossovers that I've recently driven.

The Volkswagen Passat Wagon is a fine alternative to an SUV, and a fine alternative to the basic, boring family sedan.
