VW Golf TSI: Race car gets 170kW from 1390cc

VW Golf TSI
The VW Golf 1.4 TSI is fast enough for racing, here's the proof.
The Easter Monday round of the 2007 UK Volkswagen Racing Cup at Oulton Park in Cheshire saw the racing debut of VW's 1.4-litre supercharged/turbocharged TSI engine in motoring writer Nick Trott's Golf GT.

The TSI engine produces 127kW in road-going form but Volkswagen Racing UK has boosted this to 170kW and believes there is more to come.

Director Sam Roach said: "It's been a major technological exercise to prepare this sophisticated engine for racing; 170kW from a 1.4-litre engine is a major achievement."
