Audi Sport quattro S1: 20 years ago at Pikes Peak

It was 20 years ago when Audi was celebrating one of their most important victories at Pikes Peak, it was the start for the breakthrough success of Audi's quattro technology which is still unchallenged until today.
And as serendipity would have it, today marks the 20-year anniversary of Walter Röhrl's record setting romp up to the top of Pike's Peak. One of the aspects that is so amazing about his run (besides getting his tires over the edge above mile-deep sheer drops) is that two years prior, Michèle Mouton had won the hill climb in an Audi. The next year, Bobby Unser won again in another Audi and did so while setting the course record with a run of 11:09:22 minutes. On July 11, 1987, Walter Röhrl again piloted an Audi quattro to victory up Pike's Peak, and again set a course record. This time of 10:47:85 shattered Unser's year-old record by nearly 22 seconds and beat the second place Peugeot T16 by almost 7.
