Audi: Interview with their designers

At Design Miami/ Basel 2007 we met Christian Labonte of Audi Design. Christian Labonte has been responsible for the design strategy of carmaker Audi since 2004. Christian Labonte trained as a cabinet-maker before studying architecture in Düsseldorf and industrial design in Essen. He has received many international design awards for the products of the Audi brand. In this interview he talks about his job at Audi, the carmaker’s portfolio, the growing model range, design pre-development, the role of restrictions in the design process, the design of the new A5 / S5 and his favorite designers.

Julian Hönig is responsible for the exterior design of carmaker Audi. He studied industrial design in Austria and car design in Pasadena and is the designer of the Audi RSQ concept, a futuristic film car for the motion picture “I, Robot”, and the concept car “Cross Coupé Quattro”. In this interview he shows us some details of the film car Audi RSQ and talks about the differences between movie cars, show cars and production cars, the use of show cars, Audi’s design genes and his personal background.
