VW Touareg: Self-driving Stanley is coming to South Africa

VW Touareg
2005's DARPA Challenge winner, the VW Touareg called Stanley, is coming to South Africa.
Volkswagen's "robot car", the autonomous Touareg called "Stanley", is on an exhibition tour around the world and will be on display at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg from September 22 to October 31, 2007.

The car won the 2005 American Grand Challenge, a contest sponsored by the US government’s Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa). The objective was to design a vehicle that could complete a 212km course through southern California's Mojave desert without human control or intervention.

"Stanley" was the first of only five contestants to finish out of 23 starters.
