Audi A5/S5, Audi TT: Contenders for Motor Trend's Car of the Year

The Audi A5/S5 and the Audi TT have been nominated as contenders for Motor Trend's Car of the Year competition. And we are almost sure that the Audi A5/S5 will win overall!

When it made its debut in 2000, the Audi TT became an instant icon of modern design and thrust its designer, Peter Schreyer, into the international spotlight. In the years that followed, the TT's inspirational effect could be seen to varying degrees across the automotive and industrial design landscape.

One look at this voluptuous grand touring coupe and you know it's going to look fabulous on you. Twist the key to light its 4.2-liter direct-injection V-8 (the V-6-powered A5 arrives next spring), and it seems pretty darned likely that the driving experience will be equally appealing-especially given the near 20-percent advantage in weight-to-power this year's only V-8 offering enjoys over all other contenders. And with four widely spaced, fat tires putting power to the ground, the handling seems likely to stand out from the crowd to a similar degree.
