Audi Q7: Euro Effie award for the creator of quattro

Audi has won the "Oscar" for commercials, the Euro Effie for the Audi Q7 TV commercial. Congrats to Ingolstadt, it was a fantastic spot indeed.
• Audi wins Europe’s most prestigious advertising award
• Most efficient advertising among German car manufacturers
• Second Euro Effie award for Audi

On Wednesday evening, AUDI AG was awarded the gold “EACA Euro Effie” at the award ceremony in Brussels. Awarded by the European Advertising Association (EACA), this is one of the most prestigious advertising awards in Europe. The company with the four ring logo was awarded the Golden Effie for its overall campaign for the launch of its high-performance SUV, the Audi Q7, entitled “from the creator of the quattro”.

Audi’s advertising campaign included one of the most elaborate TV commercials in company’s history. The highlight of the film is its extraordinary angle. In scenes driving over water, sand and ice, the camera was installed underneath the road surface. The viewer sees the underside of the vehicle as it drives across changing terrain, first the legendary Audi quattro racing car and finally the Audi Q7. The commercial was accompanied by printed advertisements, outdoor posters and a special online portal, the “Q7 Globe”. The campaign was realised in conjunction with the kempertrautmann agency from Hamburg.

VW Golf: Will it look like one of these?

VW Golf
Big question is: will the VW Golf VI, coming 2008, will look like one of these photoshops? If so, which one is your favorite? At least 2 of them are wrong in one detail: it will not come anymore with a chrome grille, that design is dead!

VW Tiguan: First drive

VW Tiguan
Inside Line has a "first drive" report of the VW Tiguan, but we are very sceptical that they have actually driven the car. Anyway, an interesting read in case you haven't read so far about the VW Tiguan.
Instead, the Tiguan is your typical compact sport-utility — inoffensive, affordable and designed mainly for tooling around the city. And it's good at it, thanks to a supple ride, compact dimensions and a solid chassis that feels far more substantial than most mini-utes in its class.

Touareg-like styling doesn't hurt either, and the interior is nicely done as well.

Porsche 911 GT2: First driving report

Porsche 911 GT2
UK's Car Magazine has a first driving report of the great Porsche 911 GT2. Nice!
Enough cosmetics, does it drive as hard as it looks?
Inevitably, the answer is yes. The explosiveness of the package is matched by an explosion of the senses. The minute you start driving the GT2, it comes alive. Turn-in is instant and the wheel jitters with feel and road detail, letting you know exactly what's what. This much power in a physics-defying 911 is a lesson in trepidation and a test of the nerves.

Why? Well, the noise is intense for starters, but it's mainly because you are always - and I mean always - aware that the rear wheels are doing the work and that blown flat six is only a mistimed prod away from wreaking carnage with those shaved Cup tyres.

VW: Dieselution tour across America

Dieselution
VW of America has started the Dieselution tour across America to promote advances, benefits of clean diesel technology. They even make a stopover at the Super Bowl.
Using interactive displays and exhibits, the Dieselution Tour will highlight current environmental issues and showcase advances in diesel engine technology, design and performance. Starting today, the exhibit embarks on a four-month tour, making stops at events and locations around the United States, including environmental and alternative fuel festivals, auto shows and the 2008 Super Bowl.

"Volkswagen of America considers the Dieselution Tour an important informational resource for everyone concerned about the environment and improved fuel economy standards," said Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Volkswagen of America, Inc. "We want to show Americans that today's clean diesel technology is a quantum leap from the powerplants introduced nearly 30 years ago. This tour aims to change any outdated perception about diesel technology."

"As the diesel car sales leader in the United States, we have worked hard to make our diesels cleaner, quieter and more fuel efficient," Jacoby added. "Once consumers realize that a clean diesel alternative can improve their fuel economy by nearly 35 percent over comparable gasoline engines, we're confident that many drivers will visit their local Volkswagen dealerships."

The Dieselution Tour is centered around a 53-foot-long, double-expandable semi-trailer with exhibits and interactive displays.
Elements include an "Alt Fuel/ Alt Film video area; a Dieselab with a series of interactive and video displays; a Diesel Heritage section, illustrating Volkswagen's diesel history and leadership; a Sustainability Station, involving an interactive quiz and a Carbon Footprint Calculator; a Beyond Diesel perspective featuring SunFuel; and a Motorsports display, outlining Volkswagen's recent history and international success in racing diesel vehicles in events like the Baja 500, Pikes Peak, and the Dakar rally.

The Dieselution Tour will also feature the 2009 Jetta TDI, Volkswagen's new, 50-state clean diesel offering. The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. in spring of 2008. Also on display, a 3.0-liter V6 TDI Touareg, the Polo Blue Motion and the oldest Volkswagen diesel in America, a 1977 Rabbit.

VW Polo Bluemotion: Eco friendly Polo is a 'proper' car

VW Polo Bluemotion
Here's a nice review of the VW Polo Bluemotion from South Africa.
In the real world the new VW Polo BlueMotion is the most eco-friendly proper car you can buy - at least in the UK.

It has four seats, is properly safe, you can use it for all normal car duties, and – unlike an electric car – it converts fuel into energy at the point of use rather than simply moving the process elsewhere via an inefficient intermediate storage system.

The Polo BlueMotion's CO2 emissions are rated at 99g/km, which means, in Britain, you'll pay no road tax. That's less CO2 than produced by the much-vaunted Toyota Prius, never mind that the Polo also takes much less energy to build and is easier to recycle.

Audi R8: Shown at Apple Expo in Paris!

Apple Expo
Audi lovers and Apple geeks unite: Audi is displaying some of their models, including the Audi R8, at this year's Apple Expo in Paris which is still running. If you are in Paris, make sure to pay a visit.
Great news for all iPod fans: as far as we can read the article all Audi A3 Sportback and Audi A5 will come factory-equipped with an iPod!

Here's a rough translation of the Audi France site, done by our reader AJ:
For its 2nd participation at the Apple Expo, Audi will
display on a perfectly white stand its dedicated MP3 connector for
the iPod. What you'll find: the iPod adapator on the A3 Sportback and
the Audi Music Interface on the new Audi A5, both of which are
equipped with a new iPod (YES IT DOES SAY THAT). Also not to miss,
the impetuous R8, central in the Audi lounge. Available on the Audi
A5, A6, A8, Q7, allroad quattro and the new Audi A4, the Audi Music
Interface allows the transfer of menus from the iPod into the
interface of the MMI [i.e. Audi's multimedia console). From the multi-
function steering wheel or the control unit of the MMI, the driver
controls his music library: tracks, podcasts, artists names or also
personalised lists.

Audi also struck a deal with EMI in France so you can listen to all EMI songs in your myAudi area via internet radio. Great move!

Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI: Road test report

Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI
Here's a nice road test report about the Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI from Australia.
Audi’s latest TT Roadster in 2.0 (Turbo) FSI guise nails its German rivals on almost every level, despite its smaller engine and lower price.

It’s all too easy to forget that the TT Roadster is also one of the finest looking drop tops in the automotive world. It’s also got the fastest electric roof in the business. Twelve seconds flat – even at 30km/h and that’s guaranteed. We timed it. MG die-hards lament.
