It may be new, but the Boxster RS 60 Spyder harks back to the past and points a big, fat wagging finger to Porsche’s sports car racing success in the 60s.
The Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder is the connection. In 1960 it beat cars with larger engines to score its first overall victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida. The new Boxster RS 60 Spyder is a ‘tribute’ to the Type 718. It’s a mid-engined, two-seater sports racing car and, just like the 718, it’s available in the same colour scheme – GT silver with a red leather interior.
So this is about the past. It seems almost compulsory now for manufacturers to start building cars that celebrate their ‘history’ and for Porsche, the RS 60 Spyder is all about communicating a real racing heritage.
