VW Passat CC: European test drive report

Interesting test drive report of the VW Passat CC done on European soil.

Europeans are apt to turn their noses up at America’s predilection for big gasoline engines, but, hey, you can’t buy what you aren’t offered. In this case, the States are really missing out. The smaller gasoline and diesel engines are nicer and certainly more economical to drive. The smaller gas engine is a 158-hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder TSI turbo with 184 lb.-ft. of torque—and it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds. Volkswagen says it returns 30.9 mpg. We hear the U.S. might see a slightly larger, 2.0-liter version of this unit. The diesel is the new VW Audi Group common-rail injection engine—a 138-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel unit that delivers a delicious 236 lb.-ft. of torque and will just top 40 mpg combined, according to VW.
