VW Tiguan: Review

Here's a short review of the VW Tiguan.
The Tiguan uses the same 200-horsepower turbo four as the GTI, so it's certainly sharing some DNA there. Sure, there are other cute-utes available with more power; some of them even have V-6s. But the Tiguan's turbo two-liter isn't inadequate. The engine's powerband and our tester's six-speed automatic mate so well that the Tiguan never feels taxed; it won't strain up a hill or breathe hard on the highway, especially at high altitudes. And the turbo four is lighter than a V-6, helping to make the Tiguan easier to chuck around — there aren't six cylinders, two heads, and a pair of exhaust manifolds hanging up above the body's roll center.
Also like the GTI, Tiguan still has room for stuff. The rear seat cushions scoot forward or fold flat to expand the cargo hold, and there's enough space back there for a full weekend's worth of luggage. Our managing editor Bryan Joslin even managed to squeeze a lawn mower — in the box, yet — behind the Tiguan's back seats and was still able to fit five people in the little VW.
