Porsche 911 Carrera S: Driving report

Another driving report of the fun Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Is the need for speed about to be replaced by the need for green? Or, at least, being seen to be green? The metallic green paintwork on this new Porsche 911 press car is a coincidence, we're assured. It's new to the Porsche palette and it complements the light tan leather interior nicely.

But it could also have been green to represent envy. Porsche has managed to do something few of its rivals can match: produce more power and use less fuel.

For the updated 911 range that went on sale locally in September, Porsche built two all-new engines even though they have the same capacity as before (3.6 and 3.8 litres for the tech heads).

The result is a Porsche 911 that uses less fuel than a Toyota Camry automatic. According to the fuel rating label, the new 911 Carrera does 9.8 litres/100km while the Toyota wears a 9.9L/100km window sticker. And all this despite the Porsche having more than twice the power.
