The CaymanS jumps from 217kW to 235kW and in torque from 340Nm to 370Nm.
The engine is faster and more frugal with the new PDK gearbox. A 0-100km/h time of 5.1seconds (5.2 seconds in the manual) and combined consumption of 9.2litres/100km (9.6L/100km in the manual) are claimed.
The optional Sports Chrono Pack adds a launch control to the PDK, which drops the 100km/h acceleration time to 4.9seconds.
More impressive even than the performance is the engine’s flexibility and smoothness. It really can be used anywhere, any time. And fuel consumption? We finished at 10.2L/100km. Brilliant.
While the PDK is superb when being changed manually, it is sometimes hesitant left to its own devices when accelerating from a standing start. Adding to the annoyance, the gear-change buttons on the steering wheel aren’t as easy to operate as proper paddles.
PDK can be run from quite relaxed “standard” mode through to optional Sport and Sport Plus, the latter brutally responsive and really only suitable for the racetrack.
