VW Golf R20T: New spy shots!

VW Golf R20T
Here are some new spy shots of the upcoming VW Golf R20T, the GTI's big brother.
The cross-hatched front air dam, twin-line grille, lowered suspension and twin central exhaust pipes are all the clues you need to identify this as a car that will be called the R20 when it lands in Australia in early 2010.

The new-generation R-badged Golf gets a name change because it is swapping the current 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine for a turbocharged 2.0-litre four as part of the car maker’s engine-downsizing program.

The smaller engine – believed to be related to the Audi S3’s powerplant – will be more powerful, however, with VW promising the R20 could have an output as high as 210kW – 26kW more than the $55K-plus R32.

Expect fuel economy to head in the opposite direction, being reduced from the R32’s 10.8 litres per 100km (six-speed manual; 9.8L/100km with DSG).
