In contrast, the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI logged an impressive 29 mpg on one 70-mile trip, mostly on the highway. It is the heaviest of the group, at 5,512 pounds, but still feels somewhat car-like compared with other SUVs -- though not as nimble as the BMW X5. Inside, the Audi has a bigger third row where adults can be comfortable on long trips. The BMW's optional third row is practical for small children only.
The $50,900 Q7 is also the most stylish of the three, with a nice combination of impressive size and a sleek, lower profile. Like most Audis, its interior outshines competitors'.
