Interesting review here of the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
Fact is, this Porsche is so heroically quick that really it’s a driving experience in its own right. In coupe form it’s absolutely admirable, as a sort of intercontinental ballistic coupe. So the problem is really philosophical, and much of it is to do with the soft top. You see, I don’t think anyone is realistically going to try for that 193mph Vmax in a convertible. And anybody who likes to cruise about in convertibles is soon going to tire of the manual shift, which is a bit heavy, a bit sticky, and certainly gets easier the faster you go. Same goes for the ride, which is very lumpy at town speeds and especially so if you hit the Sport button. That’s best saved for trackdays. Exactly the sort of thing you’re probably not going to tackle if you like your 911s with the roof off.
