The VW Touareg Hybrid is being shown at the New York Auto Show.
Like its platform-mate, the Touareg Hybrid will emphasize performance and luxury over fuel economy: The combined economy of about 26 miles per gallon is so-so for a hybrid, but the compensation is impressive speed and acceleration. Volkswagen says the Touareg Hybrid will go from zero to 62 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds and will have a top speed of 150 m.p.h. The supercharged V-6 is supplied by Audi. Combined with an electric motor with an equivalent of 47 horsepower, the Touareg hybrid produces 380 horsepower.

I totally agree with Christian. This seems always to be the overall strategy, top to bottom. From what I can see however, is that the combustion engine as we know it, is going to be around for a very very long time. So, this leads me to believe, that anything that enhances performance, decreases fuel consumption or any technology related to the above are sure winners in the years to come. In some way, basically stretching resources.. and making better out of what you already have
They should use the 2.0t with the hybrid setup… makes a lot more sense, would be lighter & better economy with still useful performance. I have a first gen one with only 220hp, and its plenty… and I tow my race car with it fairly effortlessly..
I don’t think this option has been ruled out. But usually all makers start top-down with the engine releases.
