Audi quattro e-tron: A new generation of quattro

Audi quattro e-tron

Here’s a must read for all Audi lovers: all you need to know about the next-generation quattro, the Audi quattro e-tron.

The Audi quattro combines e-tron fascination with sportiness and efficiency. This prototype concept has been designed as a parallel plug-in hybrid. An additional electric motor powers the rear axle and helps distribute the forces to both wheels. This approach allows the car to exploit the capabilities of a new transmission design that is either full or partially electric.

Transmission Components
The e-tron quattro has a parallel hybrid transmission supplemented by a second electric motor. The engine compartment houses a high performance petrol engine – the 2.0 TFSI with an output of 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm of torque between 1500 and 4200 rpm.

The electric motor is placed just behind the engine. This magnet synchronous motor develops a permanent 33 kW (45 hp) and 211 Nm of torque. A dry clutch, flexible and intelligent, connects the electric motor, the TFSI and four-speed automatic gearbox. This design allows the combustion engine and electric motor to both drive the wheels. Energy is stored with an array of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are positioned in the center tunnel, the optimal solution for center of gravity, and store up to 9.4 kW of which 6.5 kW may be used.
