Rumor has it that the VW Tiguan TDI could find its way to the US by 2015.
With repeated reports of a Tiguan TDI possibility, consumers may be asking if we will ever see its release. Volkswagen says yes, but not for another few years. A TDI version is certainly in demand, with requests from consumers and dealers frequently reaching the corporation. But complications are still holding back a production-ready design.
Cost plays a large part in the issue. While existing diesel technology is cost effective, the implementation required to get the engine up to emissions standards has not been, so far. The weight of the Tiguan makes it necessary to use an alternative technology from the nitrous oxide storage canister of the 2.0-liter Golf and Jetta TDI versions.
