Audi A8L W12: US prices released, starting at $134,375

Audi A8L W12

Audi of America has released the prices for the Audi A8L W12, it will be starting from $134,375.

We drove the 2011 Audi A8L W12 in Europe last summer, and the top-of-the-line A8 is finally going on sale here in the U.S. as a 2012 model. The cost: the princely sum of $134,375. The next-most-expensive A8 is the $85,575 long-wheelbase A8L powered by a 372-hp, 4.2-liter V-8; it and the entry-level short-wheelbase car have been on sale here since the 2011 model year. What does an A8L W12 buyer get for his extra $48,800? For starters, that 6.3.-liter twelve-cylinder engine, which boasts 500 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque. Audi claims the W12 can rocket the A8L to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds; for comparison, a recent comparo-winning, long-wheelbase V-8–powered A8L model took 5.1 seconds in our testing.

The A8L W12 also includes as standard 22-way (!) power seats with ventilation and massage capabilities, a panoramic sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system, and the Audi Connect infotainment system with Google Earth. While the price is dear, the A8L W12’s power, performance, and luxury aren’t far off fellow VW Grouper Bentley’s roughly $180,000 Continental Flying Spur sedan, which is powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the A8’s W12 engine. If you squint, then, the stately Audi is a bargain of sorts.
