Based on the new Boxster, the new Cayman will benefit from a 40mm longer wheelbase but shorter overhangs, boosting interior space. The roofline also appears to have been lengthened so it drops down less steeply towards the rear end and bears an even closer resemblance to the 911. The gently-curved haunches are even more pronounced, while the airscoops in front of the rear wheelarches have been shrunk slightly.
It will be powered by the same 261bhp 2.7-litre and 311bhp 3.4-litre flat-six engines as the Boxster – the more-powerful S will have a 0-60mph time of under five seconds. The new Boxster is 30kg lighter and 40 per cent stiffer, so expect the new Cayman to make similar leaps, making it nimbler and more efficient than ever before.
