Here’s the latest intel about the next-generation VW Jetta SportWagen, including a possible name change.
As you can probably guess, the next-gen car will continue to share its underpinnings and styling with the Golf—the car has traditionally been marketed in Europe as the Golf Variant—this time adopting the MkVII model‘s new MQB modular architecture. Perhaps more important, we confirmed that the plan is to bring some form—or possibly forms—of the newest carryall Jetta to the U.S.
About that “Jetta SportWagen” name: The car is still badged as a Jetta despite the fact that it wears completely different bodywork from the current, optimized-for-America sedan that was introduced for 2011. We heard as far back as a couple of years ago that the car might get a different badge for the U.S.; Michel told us that at least three possibilities—Golf SportWagen, Jetta SportWagen, and simply SportWagen—are on the table for the next-gen car.
