Ladies and gentlemen, this is the new VW Golf GTI which has been leaked online ahead of the Paris Motor Show.
VW will show a concept version of its new Mk7 Golf GTI at the show, along with the all-new VW Golf, ahead of the arrival of a production hot hatch in the spring of 2013.
Alongside these pictures of the new VW Golf GTI, claimed official performance stats have leaked, too. The new EA888 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine – as seen in the new Audi S3 – provides the power.
In the new Golf GTI, it develops 217bhp – up 10bhp from today’s Mk6 GTI. A performance pack is said to be an option, which takes power to 227bhp and also adds torque vectoring, which increases the speed of the outer front wheel when cornering for reduced understeer.
However, it’s the torque figure of the engine that sounds most impressive, jumping 70Nm, to 350Nm, promising plenty of in-gear acceleration, and helping to cut the 0-62mph time from 6.9 seconds to 6.6.
